Privacy Policy

Mr. Ham Radio keeps as little about you as it can. There is no advertising, nothing is ever sold or shared, and nothing here follows you to anybody else’s website. This page says exactly what is collected, why, and how long it stays.

What we collect

• A call sign you enter. Held for the length of your visit so the page can show you your certificate. It is not written to our records unless you buy something.
• An email address, if you give one. Used to send the certificate you asked for, to yourself or to a friend as a gift, and then discarded. It is not stored, not added to a list, and never passed to anyone.
• A purchase, if you make one. We keep the call sign, which design, the email address Stripe passes on, Stripe’s reference for the transaction, the amount, and the date.
• A message you send us. The contact form emails your name, address and message to us. It is not stored on the site.
• Anything you type onto a certificate that the FCC does not hold: a date, a name, who a certificate is from. It stays in your own browsing session and is printed onto the document. It is not stored in our records.
• Your email address, if you sign in. There is a sign-in, but no password: you give a call sign and an address, and we email a six-digit code to it. The address is kept because it is how you prove a certificate is yours when you come back for it. The code is never written down, only a one-way fingerprint of it, which is deleted once the code is used or has expired.
• A count of pages looked at. Each page view is recorded as the date and time, which page, and a random number that lasts as long as your browsing session and means nothing outside it. That is how we know whether a new design is being found. No address, no browser, no referrer, and nothing that survives the session or points at a person.

What we do not collect

There is no Google Analytics or anything like it, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts of any kind. Nothing on this site follows you to anybody else’s, and nobody outside this site is told you were here.

We do count pages looked at, and we say so above, because a site that quietly counts while a page like this one says it does not is worse than one that counts. The counting is done here, on our own server, against a random number that expires with your session. It cannot be joined to you, to a purchase, or to a later visit.

There are no passwords, so there is nothing of that sort to lose. We do not build profiles, we do not run a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone.

Cookies

One cookie, set by the web server, which keeps your session together while you move between pages. It is how the site remembers the call sign you just entered, whether you are signed in, and the random number the page count uses. The cookie itself holds none of that, only a reference to it, and it expires when you close your browser. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

Payments

Card payments are handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own page and never reach this site: we do not see, receive or store a card number. What comes back to us is whether the payment succeeded, the amount, the email address you gave Stripe, and Stripe’s reference for the transaction.

Stripe handles your payment information under its own privacy policy, which you can read at stripe.com/privacy.

FCC data

The name, class, FRN and dates printed on a certificate come from the FCC’s published amateur licensing data, which is a public record that anyone can search. We mirror it and refresh it daily. That information is the FCC’s and is already public; we do not add to it, and asking us to remove it would not remove it from the FCC.

How long we keep things

A purchase record lasts as long as the purchase does: it is what lets you come back years later, enter your call sign, and print what you bought again. The address you sign in with lasts alongside it, for the same reason.

A login code lasts ten minutes and is deleted after a day. A call sign you are only looking things up with lasts the length of your visit; an email address given to send one certificate lasts the length of that one message. The record that a payment page was opened keeps a call sign, a design and an amount, and no address at all.

The page count is kept as long as it is useful, which is a matter of months rather than a matter of years, and there is nothing in it to connect one row to a person.

To stop the site being used to send unwanted mail, we count requests against a salted, shortened fingerprint of the network address they came from. The address itself is never written down, the fingerprint cannot be turned back into one, and every count is deleted once its few minutes have passed.

Your choices

You can use most of this site without giving us anything at all: enter a call sign, look at the designs, print the free one.

If you would like the record of a purchase removed, write to us and we will delete it, along with the address it was bought with. Deleting it means you would have to buy that design again to print it, so we will say so before we do it.

Children

This site is for licensed amateur radio operators and those buying a certificate for one. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly start collecting something this page says we do not.
